1-Liter Mondeo?

1-Liter Mondeo?

Ford Mondeo
Launched at Detroit you know it as the Ford Fusion, but when the European version debuts at Paris this autumn it will be re-badged as the Mondeo. Four-door saloons aren’t that popular over here, so Ford’s main thrust will be concentrating on a five-door hatch and a wagon variant.
Insiders at Ford said the car’s coupe-like profile will remain largely unchanged for the hatch version although there will, naturally, be re-worked rear three-quarter panels.

As yet there’s no indication as to whether the European market will be offered the hybrid engines as in the Fusion range, but there’s the intriguing prospect of the one-liter EcoBoost being used.
Producing 118 bhp and upwards of 147 lbs.-ft. of torque on transient overboost, it certainly has got enough power but, what would be the public’s response? Are car buyers in this class prepared for such radical downsizing in the interests of fuel economy and emissions?
That will depend, partially, on the price of fuel and it is unlikely to get cheaper in the foreseeable future.
