Audi R8 Grand-Am to Debut – 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona

The Audi R8 Grand-Am racing car will make its U.S. debut this weekend during the 50th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race. While it looks outwardly similar to the mid-engine production R8 V10, there are major differences separating the R8 Grand-Am and its road-ready equivalent. The following video shows the R8 Grand-Am in action, and lists some of the car’s key design features.

Audi is no stranger to the grueling world of 24 hour racing. The German automaker has dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the past decade. Team APR Motorsport and Oryx Racing will field one R8 Grand-Am each in Daytona’s highly competitive GT Class. While it won’t be gunning for outright victory – the Daytona Prototype class has that covered – the battle for GT honors should be epic.
